Circuit Court Division

Attorneys in the Circuit Court Division handle major felony cases, most of which have been presented to the Grand Jury for indictment. Assistant State's Attorneys in the Circuit Court Division are assigned to one of that Division's eight Units:

Homicide, Firearms & Narcotics Trafficking and Assets Forfeiture Units

Homicide Unit (301) 952-3445
Firearms & Narcotics Trafficking Unit (301) 952-3146
Asset Forfeiture Unit (301) 952-3548

The Homicide and Firearms & Narcotics Trafficking Units investigate and prosecute the most violent and destructive crimes committed in Prince George's County.

The attorneys in this unit work closely with law enforcement officials in the investigation of each homicide. Together, they gather the evidence to charge and convict those involved in these acts of violence.

The Firearms & Narcotics Trafficking Unit aggressively prosecutes people involved in drug trafficking. Using Maryland's Nuisance Abatement and Asset Forfeiture laws, the Firearms & Narcotics Trafficking Unit works to evict drug dealers from houses and apartments where drug dealing is rampant and to seize the assets of drug dealers. The State's Attorney's Office also actively participates in the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program. This is a federal, state and local partnership designed to decrease the number of hard-core drug users, eliminate drug and firearm trafficking organizations and reduce drug-related violence.

Felony Trial Unit

The Felony Trial Unit handles major crimes other than homicide and narcotics cases. This includes difficult cases involving assault, burglary, robbery, rape, child abuse, sexual assault, theft, carjacking, embezzlement and public wrongdoing.

(301) 952-3500

The Child Abuse/Sex Unit specializes in the prosecution of cases involving assault and abuse of children, women and the elderly. The attorneys, victim/witness coordinators and investigators in this unit serve as advocates for victims making sure those who have been harmed by abuse or assault are treated compassionately and fairly by the criminal justice system.

Economic Crimes Unit

(301) 952-3500

The Economic Crimes Unit prosecutes cases involving fraud, embezzlement, theft and other "white collar" crimes. This includes public misconduct and conflict of interest cases.

Violent Offender Unit

(301) 952-3500

Grand Jury Unit

(301) 952-5448

Assistant prosecutors may work on cases with the assistance of investigative staff or a local law enforcement agency representative who originally worked on the investigation.

The Domestic Violence Unit
