Tours
In addition to the presentations, AMG also offers tours of the
Animal Management Facility. The tours last approximately 40 minutes and consist of a walk
through our Facility with an Animal Control Officer. During the
tour, participants will get a chance to hold some kittens and puppies, as well as ask
questions. To schedule a tour, please call the Volunteer Coordinator
at (301) 499-8300.

Volunteer Programs
The Animal Management
Group (AMG) provides opportunities
for
students to fulfill their community service
requirement for graduation. Any student, 13 years of age or older
that is interested in volunteer
work at the Animal Management Facility, must
complete an application (provided here as a PDF document). Student
volunteers perform routine clerical tasks
such as filing, sorting mail, stuffing envelopes
and data
entry. Students are not allowed to work with the
animals in the kennels due to the liability
to the County should they be injured.
Adult
volunteers (at least 18 years of age) wishing to work with the
animals and assist the
kennel contractor
must complete a volunteer application.
AMG
also accepts court ordered community service volunteers. This
is coordinated through the Group of Parole
and Probation, Department of Public Safety
and Corrections, with the State of Maryland.
Anyone wishing
to pursue volunteer work with the AMG should
either call (301) 499-8323 or visit the
shelter and
obtain an application. The approval process normally
takes two weeks to complete. Volunteer work
is available Monday through Saturday,
9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday evenings until 7:30 p.m.
